NovoRapid is a rapid-acting insulin used to treat diabetes in children, adolescents, and adults:
How it works
NovoRapid is injected under the skin and lowers blood sugar levels. It starts working within 10–20 minutes, reaches maximum effect in 1–3 hours, and lasts for 3–5 hours.
When to take it
NovoRapid is usually taken before or soon after a meal.
How it’s taken
NovoRapid is available in a pre-filled pen called the NovoRapid FlexPen. The pen can deliver 1–60 units of insulin in 1 unit increments.
Side effects
The most common side effect is hypoglycemia, which can occur if the insulin dose is too high. Symptoms include cold sweats, pale skin, fatigue, nervousness, and confusion.
Other considerations
NovoRapid should not be used with alcohol. It should be used with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease.
NovoRapid is an insulin analogue, which is an improved version of human insulin.
